I have corrupt files which I wish to delete.
Win XP is not allowing me to, saying because corupt it won't delete.
I downloaded "unlocker" application and it won't allow it to either.
I tried running "cmd" prompt which I am not comfortable with, but tried the string of commands and did not work because I was trying to del a folder not a file. If you told me the specific secquence to type for the "folder" deletion as opposed to just "file" I may be willing to try that.
Any suggestions are always appreciated.
Thanks daddyo

Transferring pics and video from win 7 to XP

I have personal pictures and video from camera shots that I transferred from my cannon camera to my win 7 laptop.
I have copied these to my XP desktop.
However I cannot read either the jpeg files or the mov files on the XP machine.
I have tried using 2 different methods to transfer (ie one as a memory stick the other way on my external HD backup) and it is not the transfer medium that appears to be causing it.
I can view them fine on the win 7 machine. I also copied them to an android tablet which worked fine.
I have other jpeg and mov files from other transfers direct from the camera to the XP machine and I can read those on the XP.
It seems some incompatability between win 7 and XP OS's and how they treat these files.

Any ideas will be appreciated.

Hi thought i would post this for those who have changed from windows xp to windows vista - i have a friend who didnt know where to find the add/remove so did some looking up and found this information

Add/Remove Programs in Windows Vista
So you say you can't find the Add/Remove programs function in Windows Vista? Well, in Windows XP Add/Remove Programs is in Control Panel under an icon of the same name. But in Windows Vista it has been changed to "Programs and Features".

To locate the Program and Features function:

1. Click Start and choose Control Panel,

2. In Control Panel double click on the "Programs and Features" icon.

3. Here you can find all the programs and items which are installed in Windows Vista.

4. To remove any of them click once on the program you want to uninstall and then click on Uninstall/Change and follow the prompts.

Now wasn't that easy!

Pay Increases

Re Pay Increases

I read that the City of Ottawa and the Amalgamated Transit Union 279 has a proposed contract over the next 4 years.

I don't want to condemn or put down the proposed salary increases over the next 4 years if they are reasonable.

So, may I ask if anyone would know what other Unions have negotiated for salary increases in and around the current years.

-what the city of Ottawa employees are under contract,
-what the various Federal employee Unions are under contract,
(if I recall one Union was previously under a 3 yr contract @ 1.5% per year - Did the Transit Union on their last contract receive 3.0% per yr. during those same years?)
-what the Provincial employee Unions are under contract for,
-what the Provincial Teachers Unions are under contract for,
-what the Provincial or City Hydro Unions are under contract for,
-what have other large Unions have negotiated for,

I was thinking that the news media might have reviewed this criteria and said these increases are either reasonable or inflated with reference to other Union contracts.

I notice that it appears where the City of Ottawa previously had in their Priority to be able to set the scheduling to save operating costs, it seems that item may have been dropped but that is not clear as I read the proposed contract in the news says "more Union input on scheduling". That is not clear to me. Who is going to make the FINAL decison on scheduling?

I have heard comments that no one wants a strike or disgruntled employees and perhaps that is why this proposed contract should be agreed upon.
On the other hand, correct me if am wrong, anyone receiving CPP or OAS only receive the cost of living increases each year.
If I were a contract negotiator, that to me would be a fair offer.

Casino

I've got a problem with sending revenue to another province, but I've also got a problem with adding "a tax on stupidity". So where do we go with a casino? In my view, it's simple, really. Build a casino, but limit advertising to plain stuff in the vein of: "if throwing your money at the government is your idea of entertainment, now you have a local option - Ottawa Casino!". It's a bit like smoking - just because it's legal doesn't mean letting them advertise it is a good idea. We don't want new gamblers, we want the existing ones to waste their money locally.

Your Yearly Dementia Test

Your Yearly Dementia Test

It's that time of year to take our annual senior citizen test. Exercise of the brain is as important as exercise of the muscles. As we grow older, it's important to keep mentally alert. If you don't use it, you lose it! Below is a very private way to gauge your loss or non-loss of intelligence. Take the test presented here to determine if you're losing it or not. The spaces below are so you don't see the answers until you've made your answer.

OK, relax, clear your mind and begin.

1. What do you put in a toaster?

Answer: 'bread.' If you said 'toast,' give up now and do something else.
Try not to hurt yourself. If you said, bread, go to Question 2

2. Say ' silk' five times. Now spell 'silk.' What do cows drink?

Answer: Cows drink water. If you said 'milk,' don't attempt the next question. Your brain is over-stressed and may even overheat. Content yourself with reading a more appropriate literature such as Auto World. However, if you said 'water', proceed to question 3.

3. If a red house is made from red bricks and a blue house is made from blue bricks and a pink house is made from pink bricks and a black house is made from black bricks, what is a greenhouse made from?

Answer: Greenhouses are made from glass. If you said 'green bricks,' why are you still reading these??? If you said 'glass,' go on to Question 4.

4. It's twenty years ago, and a plane is flying at 20,000 feet over Germany (If you will recall, Germany at the time was politically divided into West Germany and East G ermany.) Anyway, during the flight, two engines fail. The pilot, realizing that the last remaining engine is also failing, decides on a crash landing procedure. Unfortunately the engine fails before he can do so and the plane fatally crashes smack in the middle of 'no man's land' between East Germany and West Germany Where would you bury the survivors? East Germany, West Germany , or no man's land'?

Answer: You don't bury survivors.
If you said ANYTHING else, you're a dunce and you must stop. If you said, 'You don't bury survivors', proceed to the next question.

5. Without using a calculator - You are driving a bus from London to Milford Haven in Wales . In London , 17 people get on the bus. In Reading , six people get off the bus and nine people get on. In Swindon, two people get off and four g et on. In Cardiff , 11 people get off and 16 people get on. In Swansea , three people get off and five people get on . In Carmathen, six people get off and three get on. You then arrive at Milford Haven.
What was the name of the bus driver?

Answer: Oh, for crying out loud!
Don't you remember your own name? It was YOU!!

Now pass this along to all your friends and pray they do better than you.

PS: 95% of people fail most of the questions!!

I think it's good that we're going to say goodbye to the penny. People can't even bother to pick it up off the ground, and if you placed a pile of 400 pennies next to your Four-Dollar-Latte you'd really see how silly the value comparison was.

I just hope I don't see crusty old grandpas finding that their total comes to something and two cents, and start fishing for change so that they get the advantage of rounding down.

Since most transactions are electronic anyway, it won't make a scrap of difference.

I have a friend who sends me email from time to time and the other day I got an email from the same friend but with a subject line "Incredible" and a blue text in the body of the email which said click to see video. I thought it to be suspicious so I deleted it. Then I got the same one again sent at 12:00 A.M. which I thought was odd. Stupidly I clicked on the blue text in the email but nothing happened, so I replied to my friend and told them it didn't work and asked what it was, they responded that they hadn't sent it to me but it had their email address as the sender. I am very worried because my friend is still a novice with computers. They have a tutor and I told my friend to tell the tutor what happened and to check it out. They have a sympatico email account. I have done a virus scan and everything is ok and a spybot scan and malware quick scan. Should we be concerned and what should my friend do first?
